Kitesurfing Cruise for Digital Nomads

It’s true than when you go for a kitesurfing adventure in the sea the last thing you want to think about is internet connection. Kitesurfing means sea, wind and freedom of mind. But for many people staying connected online doesn’t only mean to be “social” and post stories on Instagram but also be able to stay connected with work issues making some Whatsapp calls or check urgent emails. During our kitesurfing cruises internet used to be quite a problem as we go far away from the coast line to the islands of the Red Sea. And at a certain point, I thought I found the perfect solution, Star Link!

The internet service created by Space X worked like a charm on board, and it did that for 2 years.

But not anymore.

Begin 2025, the system was shut down completely. While nobody knows how that happened, the end results is that we are back to bad internet on board during our week. How bad is the question?

Email and whatsapp messages? That’s not a problem, but don’t expect real time conversation.

Whatsapp and regular calls? In most of the kite spots, that wont work.

Big Downloads? Extremely challenging pretty much everywhere.

So it all depends on your work – I can work on board, but it’s important that I explain to all people that need to work on board the limitation of this system. The best solution? A local sim card paired with an Esim like Holafly. This is my personal combination that let me be present online at all time during a kite safari.

With our boat we visit the best kite spots in the Red Sea: it’s a lot of kitesurfing, but also a lot of free time to work and chill on the boat if needed. We have several tables on board, with an air-conditioned indoor saloon that is quiet and comfortable.
