2025 is over. Officially. I’m watching Netflix and thinking about what will happen next year, and what I should do to get ready for it. So I will write down here, alternately, one good thing that will happen in 2026 for my beloved kite safaris, and something bad that I need to take care of. As always, I will be honest and I won’t hide the little problems that could arise next year, while highlighting what I think will go well.
KITE SAFARIS WILL ALWAYS BE BETTER
This is normal. The more I do it, the better I get at it. Better kite gear, more experience, a better team. The wind will be there — Egypt has been so windy over the last year that I really don’t see it not blowing in 2026. That’s why I decided to start kite safaris in March 2026: why not take advantage of a very cold month in Europe when wind and temperatures in Egypt are very decent?
STARLINK WILL BE BACK? I DON’T THINK SO
It used to work in Egypt, but it doesn’t anymore. If you come on board, be prepared for a poor internet connection. Enough for WhatsApp and emails, but forget video calls. Nobody has Starlink in Egypt. Period. I’ve tested several Wi-Fi systems on board, they are a complete headache. eSIMs work ok, as well as an Etisalat SIM card (which you can buy at the airport), or simply the roaming plan of your regular SIM card. But don’t expect miracles…
On the plus side, no internet means that people (and I) are not stuck to our phones and dedicate time to more social activities like games (I’m a specialist in those), music, drinks (but not too much, please), and the long-forgotten art of having a conversation with each other.
THE YACHTS WILL ALWAYS BE NICER
Every year they get better. Heaven Liberty and New Regency are undergoing small renovations to keep up their standards. Being comfortable on board is important, and this is something that will improve even more next year.
BUSY BUSY BUSY
Kite safaris are getting more and more popular. Months like September and October will be full of yachts at sea — fuller than usual. It’s January, and I’m already getting a lot of requests for kite safaris for next year, at a time when I would normally just plan my next holiday. It’s good to be busy, but I don’t want overcrowded spots. Nobody does. I do need to be realistic, though, that could happen next year. I’m also wrong quite often, so maybe I’m wrong this time.
RUMOURS
I’ve heard that the government is planning to increase the marina park fee by over 100%. That’s not good news at all. I will keep my marina park fee as shown on my website, but it could become a big problem for me if this regulation changes in the middle of the season.
