Do I need a wetsuit for a Kite Safari in Winter?
The simple answer is yes. In November it starts getting colder in the water, especially early morning and late afternoon – if you want to be warm and cozy, you will need at least a 3mm wetsuit, heading to 5mm in December. While it’s possible to rent wetsuit on board (let us know in advance) my suggestion is always to bring your own wetsuit – a wetsuit is a very personal item, it’s like a pair of shoes and you need to be comfortable on it. A wetsuit too large or too small can make kitesurfing much less comfortable.
SOMETHING TO REMEMBER
If you plan to fall a lot in the water (and when you are progressing in kitesurfing, you will fall) a wetsuit is a must.
If diving is planned during our Kite Safari week, you will need a 5mm wetsuit in October as well – when you go deep, the water is obviously colder.
You don’t need a neoprene cap or gloves – it’s not that cold.
Don’t forget watershoes – mandatory for beginners, optional for good riders. Nobody likes watershoes, but if you plan to crash a lot in shallow water, bring them (they cost just 5€ in Decathlon).
I love kitesurfing, travelling, and making short walks with my dog. I organize kite cruises in Egypt since 2014, you may find me in some windy beach pretty much all year round when I’m not on the boat, may it be Egypt, Cape Verde, Mauritius or Greece. I drink red wine and play (badly) the guitar. You can contact me at +201009410388 (whatsapp or calls) or just email me at [email protected]
Hope to see you on board one of these days!
