Abu Mungar Kite Spot
Abu Mungar is the closest spot to Hurghada, and a good idea if you are lazy and you don’t want to travel long during the first day of kitesafari. It’s a big island that stretches over the sea in a long and beautiful sand bank. Kiters can kite on both sides of the sand bank (depending on tides). It’s the perfect way to start a kite safari, but you will need strong winds for Abu Mungar to work well
THE WIND IN ABU MUNGAR
The wind is off-shore or on shore, depending on which side of the sand bank you kite. You need a good forecast to kite in Abu Mungar – do not go there if the wind is not strong in the forecast.
FOR WHAT LEVEL OF KITEBOARDING IS ABU MUNGAR OK?
It’s great for beginners, but only at high tide. The on-shore lagoon is huge and the perfect playground for them. Advanced and Intermediates will enjoy the off-shore lagoon. Plenty of space for everyone.
As always, if students and beginners drift and can’t come back to the beach, they will be rescued by our practical rescue boats.
AFTER KITING
You can’t go to Abu Mungar after dark, it is forbidden.
MORE ABOUT ABU MUNGAR
The tides play a crucial role in Abu Mungar. During low tide, the beach is big enough, but the on-shore lagoon is waterless. During high tide, the water is perfect for kiting for everyone, but there is limited space to prepare your kite.
I love kitesurfing, travelling, and making short walks with my dog. I organize kite cruises in Egypt since 2014, you may find me in some windy beach pretty much all year round when I’m not on the boat, may it be Egypt, Cape Verde, Mauritius or Greece. I drink red wine and play (badly) the guitar. You can contact me at +201009410388 (whatsapp or calls) or just email me at info@sickdogsurf.com
Hope to see you on board one of these days!
