Wetsuit or No Wetsuit? Kite Safari in Egypt

Wetsuit or No Wetsuit? Kite Safari in Egypt

The Egypt Kite Safari season runs from March to November.
In March and April, you’ll need a full wetsuit. Towards the end of April and throughout May, a shorty is usually sufficient.
In June, July, August, and up to around mid-September, no wetsuit is needed (but do bring a lycra).
After that, there’s a short period when a shorty will do, and from mid-October onward, it’s time to bring out the full wetsuit again if you want to kite with us.

OUR RECOMMENDATION

Since Covid, we’ve decided not to rent out wetsuits anymore.
We always advise our kiters to bring their own, as a wetsuit is a very personal item and needs to fit well.
Wearing one that isn’t comfortable can really affect your session.

A wetsuit from Decathlon is a great quality option at a very good price.
Alternatively, you might choose to invest in a wetsuit specifically designed for kitesurfing.
Avoid dive wetsuits—they tend to be quite stiff and not ideal for kiteboarding.

WHICH KIND OF PERSON (AND KITER) ARE YOU?

If you’re like me and really don’t like being cold, it’s best to play it safe.
Bring a wetsuit for the end of April, the beginning of May, and from mid-September onward.
If you don’t mind slightly cooler water and prefer to ride without a wetsuit (yes, let’s call it “wetsuitless”), then you can probably skip it from mid-April to the end of September.

If you’re a beginner, keep in mind that you’ll be spending a lot of time crashing – meaning you’ll be wet most of the time.
So it’s definitely a good idea to have a wetsuit handy.
If you’re an experienced rider and don’t expect to be in the water much, then you might be fine without one during those in-between months I mentioned earlier.

SUNRISE KITE SESSION?

Early mornings can be chilly.
The sun typically rises around 5:30am, and if you’re planning lots of early morning sessions, you might feel it. By 7:00am, it usually warms up nicely, but for that first challenging hour, it’s a good idea to have your wetsuit ready.

I love kitesurfing, travelling, and making short walks with my dog. I organize kite cruises in Egypt since 2014, you may find me in some windy beach pretty much all year round when I’m not on the boat, may it be Egypt, Cape Verde, Mauritius or Greece. I drink red wine and play (badly) the guitar. You can contact me at +201009410388 (whatsapp or calls) or just email me at [email protected] Hope to see you on board one of these days!
